If still basically loyal to Apple, I would note, in hopefully helping the brand, certain lapses such as apparently quality control in some aspects of the new iPad2. Other areas as well. Just something to be mindful of, and with luck smoothed out soon.
As for OS X, I've wondered of late if the natural progression would not be a merging of iOS and OS X into one. Although it certainly should not be a merger in one direction only. Some of the discussions on the iPad forum concern those frustrated with the limitations of iOS for real work, such as lack of a real file system. Some have postulated, and surely rightly so, that the iPad is still a device best used in conjunction with something running OS X. The same would hold true for users of the iPhone, as likely very few who consider it their only computer. So, ideally, I could see the best traits of either OS merged into one better, and that expanded in capability.
In any event, if imperfect, Apple still the best, and much to love.

What is this hideous faux leather iCal format ????? It's just like the truly awful wooden background that somehow crawled in to the iPad. Please think again on this. It will look abysmal on a large iMac or MBP screen. It looks like a child's toy. :o

If the rumor is true and the video iPod is relased soon, Microsoft better be ready to lose more than $50.00 a unit. Apple may lower the price of the older iPods and the the Video iPod around the same price of their top level iPod (5.5G).

Imagine an icecream stand, selling icecream cones "revolutionarily" cylindrical in shape and everyone's icecream fell out the bottom. Then, they remedy this by going "ok, we'll give you all a small piece of paper to glue to the bottom that will sort of fix the problem."
I'm getting so tired of hearing all this whining and complaining. First off, don't complain about the iPhone 4 unless YOU ACTUALLY HAVE AN iPHONE 4! Secondly, don't complain cuz you can make your bars disappear on your iPhone 4 unless you've EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS DURING NORMAL USE. Yes i can make my phone drop bars. Yes Apple screwed up some with the design or at least by giving everyone an "X" marks the spot. And in regards to your icecream cone metaphor, the iP4 is not even close to actually being dysfunctional because of this antenna issue. It would be more like Apple selling revolutionary icecream cones that LEAKED a bit out of the bottom when you held it a certain way. And to remedy it, Apple gave out PAPER ICECREAM CONE SLEEVES (the kind you get from icecream places already.... but SOME people prefer to take it out of the sleeve while others are fine with it). And you people still manage to complain. Either put a case/bumper on it if you actually do experience problems, or return the phone and ****.

ok another question...if i go into a retail store and their sold out of hte macbook i want...can i pay and have it shipped...i know i can use the online store its just that i cant use a credit card or have access to one....

Nope, the discounts are only going to apply to purchases of stuff that day, no rainchecks for out of stock items or anything like that. Sorry for the bad news!

The reasons people HATE this new version so much:
1. It adds a lot of features and answers requests.
2. It's a free update.
3. This is a photography event, and people were caught off guard when Apple showed their photography product, despite the Aperture image right on the invitation.
4. Apple never releases hardware on Tuesdays, so there is no hope for any MacBook Pro updates tomorrow.
5. There will never be another chance for new MacBook Pros. We now know that the current models will be sold forever and ever, even after Apple goes out of business, which will happen by the end of the year.
:pWhy it's obvious why people hate this update so much. In fact I'm almost tempted to get Aperture to manage my photos (Academic discount, 3,000 images, 500 photos <3)
Now I just wish my earlier comments were still here. Tomorrow is Tuesday.

Those who bought the 5.5g ipods lately probably are going to feel bummed.
I've just bought one, but I bought one in the full knowledge that the 6g may be appearing soon. I've had a true PMP in the past and I just didn't use it, as what I want is primarily a music player with very occasional videos. Unless this has some real killer feature no-one has thought of yet (and I'm including all the wild speculation in this) I will be perfectly happy.

I actually really dislike the borderless look. I hope they don't do this. A larger screen is one thing I really don't need. If I want a big screen, I'll get an iPad.

In fact, the more I look at it especially compared with the iphone 4, the more I think it looks *better* (in comparison the 4's sides and top and bottom look too thick). Of course it probably doesn't help that's a white iphone (I don't like the white iphone in general).
I think in black I'd probably be neutral between the two (black doesn't look as bad with that thickness I think).
And if they don't change the resolution, I still don't see much point. You're not really getting more screen real estate. I suppose it will be a little easier on the eyes to have bigger text/icons. But would that really make that much of a difference on that front either?

That's hardly surprising. I'm more interested in the 100% legal bit - it's interesting that Apple hasn't yet moved to explicitly ban running OS X on non-Apple hardware.

it's frustrating, but apple work on the premise that they won't attract many new customers by reducing their prices (because they charge more than everywhere else in the first place). all black friday does is give people an excuse to buy that macbook that they have been hesitating over for three weeks, or the ipod that they were waiting for the right moment to buy.....

Are you new to the design awards? They have existed for years without the App Store. It used to to be that you would submit your app to Apple prior to WWDC. Why would an App Store be required?
In other words, it is now more fair to everyone because you just need to be in the App Store rather than having to submit your app specifically to be considered.

I think its the kid's responsibility here. The OP had every intention of paying for his purchase, but the cashier dropped the ball big time. When you take on a job, you assume the responsibilities that come with it. Making a mistake that big will have consequences. I would hate to have someone that makes mistakes like that working for me.

He would have to come up with language that does not confirm or deny, but still states "not this quarter".
I believe it would increase sales on the margin for peple waiting for the next great thing to come out ala Merom MBP, despite the fact that the only benefit to Merom over Yonah is 64 bit.
He should UPOD and SAY this was the greatest processor improvement in a decade and additional improvements will be incremental for a couple years.
Even if we later learn those increments are doublings of processor counts. Besides that ONLY benefits threaded applications, not "traditional applications" which have seen a plateau for the forseeable future.
At some point the consumer experience is not appreciably improved by processor improvements. Except for media processing intensive applicatons, we are there.
That alone ia an amazing statement for the Apple platform.
Can any other platform say that or even promise that any time within 2 years?

If not today, we could see an MB/MBP update sometime after Sep 16th when the free ipod nano promo expires. That's my best guess, but even i am hoping desperately for the update to happen today!
